The sympathetic, concrete shopping center of Puotila from the 60’s, which has now been unfortunately demolished, was a special urban oasis.Two bars, one offered rare premium whiskeys and specialty beers, the other cheap happy-hour pints.

Even in Puotila, money was tight for many. The week was lived sparingly, but when the weekend came, the princes and queens of Puotila emerged. Money was not spared, rounds were offered for friends and acquaintances and the shopping center pulsated a boisterous life. Until the everyday life came again.

Sympaattinen Puotilan betoniostari, joka nyt on purettu, oli erikoinen kaupunkikeidas. Kaksi baaria, toinen tarjosi harvinaisia huippuviskejä ja erikoisoluita, toinen happy-hour kaljunkia halvalla. Ostarissa palveli nälkäisiä kulkijoita myös mm. ravintola nimeltään "Vietnamilaisen perheen keittiö".

Puotilassakin monella rahat olivat tiukassa. Viikko elettiin säästäen, mutta kun viikonloppu tuli, kuoriutuivat esiin Puotilan ostarin ruhtinaat ja kuningattaret. Ei säästelty, ystäville ja tutuille tarjottiin ja ostari sykki riehakasta elämää. Kunnes koitti taas arki.
